A hidden camera does not have to be switched on to leave a visible clue. Its lens can reflect light even when the camera is inactive, and that is the principle behind the CD-i hidden camera detector.
Rather than relying on a wireless signal, this compact optical detection uses an LED matrix to emit infrared light toward the area being inspected. Furthermore, the camera lens can be identified regardless of whether the camera is active or switched off.
When the beam reflects off camera optics, the resulting glint helps the user identify a potential lens. Built-in infrared-filtering glass helps distinguish these reflections from unwanted surface glare, making the inspection process more focused.
The CD-i Infrared scanner keeps its main functions straightforward, with controls for adjusting infrared brightness, starting a search, and switching the unit on or off.
- Brightness: Adjust the infrared output according to the distance. Lower brightness is recommended for close inspections at approximately 1–3 meters, while higher brightness can help when checking areas more than 5 meters away. An LED bar indicator displays the current setting.
- Search: Press and hold the search button throughout the inspection. The LED indicators remain illuminated while the button is held.
- Power: Switch the scanner on or off.
